Frequently Asked Questions
Can anyone learn good facilitation skills?
Anyone can learn the basic principles of meeting preparation and design and of meeting facilitation. Those skills alone will be a big upgrade to your meetings.
What does a bad meeting look like?
A "bad" meeting is one that doesn't generate results, that uses time inefficiently, that leaves people frustrated, that allows angry conflict and deteriorates relationships among participants. Meetings without a purpose, desired outcome or agenda are at risk of being inefficient. Meetings where no one is paying attention to process or facilitating often run off track or let conflicts get out of hand.
Is it really possible to change the meeting culture of an organization?
Absolutely! If most of the members of an organization are trained and use the basic principles in Great Meetings! Great Results, then the organization as a whole will change how it uses its time in meetings. Members of the organization will reinforce one another and insist that others stick to the basic principles. Employees will be enthusiastic when they find that their time in meetings is well spent and productive.
What meetings need to be facilitated?
All meetings - whether one-on-one meetings between colleagues, impromptu meetings about an unexpected crisis, or large group retreats - need facilitation. By that we mean that there needs to be planning and guidance of process. The principles and tools of Great Meetings! Great Results apply equally to every meeting in your life.
